Mapping Network Drive in Linux

Can Anybody help
As we use Tools->Map Network Drive in windows to map alfresco repository as a drive
how can we map alfresco in linux...
My linux machine name is ORACLE....so I've tried out this frm command prompt

#mkdir /z
#mount //ORACLEA/Alfresco /z

I've also tried this out..
mount -t smbfs -o username=user,password=password
//ORACLEA/Alfresco /z

I tried to give my IP address instead of ORACLE...still it's not working...

Re: Mapping Network Drive in Linux

Try that.
mount -t cifs -o username=user,password=password //ORACLEA/Alfresco /z
And you might see mount error tail -f /var/log/message

Sorry for my probable grammar and lexical errors, English isn't my native language.

Re: Mapping Network Drive in Linux

It's ok...no problem...
But I tried this too...still it isnt working. I'm getting this error.

[root@oracle ~]# mount -t cifs -o user=admin,password=admin //ORACLEA/Alfresco /Z
mount error: could not find target server. TCP name ORACLEA/Alfresco not found rc = 134526947
No ip address specified and hostname not found

Any more changes to be made in file-servers.xml ?

Re: Mapping Network Drive in Linux

1. Is OracleA the PC where you mount the folder z?
2. Has Alfresco started as root user?

mount error 13 = Permission denied
Refer to the mount.cifs(8) manual page (e.g.man mount.cifs)

Re: Mapping Network Drive in Linux

If I had to guess I would say your probably running samba on the machine as well?

You won't be able to start up samba and alfresco at the same time unless you bound the services to two seperate IP addresses or ports.

Just as a test, try stopping samba and mounting the drive using the same command as above or even

mount -t cifs //localhost/Alfresco /Z -o username=admin,password=admin

Re: Mapping Network Drive in Linux

I tried that...
Still it doesnt work...

Is it a requirement that like in Windows there is Win32NetBios.dll file for CIFS...
But in Linux, there might be such a file..that we dont know ?

Even If I get the name of that file, I can search for it

Re: Mapping Network Drive in Linux

Are you running samba on the linux server?

What does the following command return?

/etc/init.d/smb status

It should in theory say something like:
smbd is stopped
nmbd is stopped

Re: Mapping Network Drive in Linux

Yes...u r right. I tried to create CIFS server. This time I had started SMB server. This showed error.

But when I stop the SMB server and then try to create CIFS server, I can successfully do it.

Thank you so much...
