Share security

Postby boneill on 29 Jan 2009, 11:01

Hi All,

i am trying to understand how Share security works. Is there any information on what permissions the roles in share (Manager, Collaborator, Contributor, Consumer) have when interacting with the site components.
Also how do these roles relate to the the alfresco explorer roles (Owner, Coordinator Collaborator, Contributor, Editor, Consumer, No Perms.)

2) How do you use ldap to set the role of a user when synching that user.

3) Is there any other layer of security appart from roles.

4) Can you administer users and security from inside share.

Regards

The default Alfresco roles are described here: http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/Default_P ... x_Groups_2
...and there's a much more detailed entry about Security and Authentication here: http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/Security_ ... entication

For Share the roles map across directly, but on a Site-by-Site basis. There's a new role of "Site Manager" who can fully administer a Site.

Thanks,
Mike

Okay so roles are pretty straight foreward. So how do you map these roles to users/sites in share.

1) How do I use LDAP to say someone is a Coordinator and can therefore administer site teams.
2) If role is based both on User and Site, how do you use ldap to map a users permission in a site.....

I'm also trying to figure out what the the permissions are for each role, but the language is going right over my head. Can somebody help me out? Simple simple language would be much appreciated...

I see that the four roles are consumer, contributor, collaborator, and manager

I get that consumer = read only, but I'm not what the distinction is between consumer/contributor/manager.

Also, when you invite a contact, I see that you give them a role. What if I want people's roles (not just the categories) to change depending on the document: for example, that a person can be a collaborator for one document, but a consumer for another?

Thanks!

Hi C - follow the links above for a detailed explanation. Basically - an editor can edit, but not create. A Contributor can contribute (create), but not edit. A Collaborator can edit and create.

Sidenote : When a user creates something, he automatically has full rights to it. So for your own objects, you are coordinator, even when you are only contribtor in the space.

Did I shorten your search, gimme a point, I want one too :-D ... oh ... and update the Wiki PLEASE.
